“Evening Sunset” was in the collection of Boyd Lewis & Hazel Boyd Lewis. Boyd Lewis was a war time correspondent sent to Provincetown in the late 50's to report on a submarine that had sunk off the coast here. He met Henry Hensche and Ada Rayner.   and would  become one of Henry's only true friends in his lifetime.   Boyd's wife Hazel Boyd Lewis and Ada Rayner also became best of friends.  Henry had the greatest respect for Boyd Lewis.   Over the course of their friendship Boyd amassed the greatest collection of Hensche paintings.  They would remain friends until the time Henry left Provincetown with Dottie Billeau right after the death of Ada Rayner in 1985.  Boyd Lewis to this day still is considered the greatest Hensche collector.  Lavinia Wohlfarth got this painting from the grandchildren of Boyd & Hazel Lewis.  It is verified by John Ebersberger and his girlfriend Sharon Littig that this painting was originally from the massive Boyd & Hazel Lewis Hensche collection.

*     Miss Elizabeth Cook was the daughter of a doctor in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She apparently studied art in New York, Chicago, Santa Fe, and eventually wound up in Paris.  She was married three or four times and had three children.
This painting was purchased over 30 years ago at an estate sale at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The consignor purchased it there and it has been in his private collection ever since.  There has been no restoration on the painting.  Since the canvas is glued to the board, it is impossible to ascertain if there is an actual signature on the verso.  There is no signature on the front of the painting.  The labels on the verso are indeed original.
