Saturday, January 2, 2010 Alphabetical Lot List.  No results.

Auctioneer's NOTE:
There are many people who view images online and then attend the auction to discover what they saw online is not what they see in person.  I cannot speak for other auction houses, but at Outer Cape Auctions, the photographing is done in house (by ME).  I use a pretty average Canon Sureshot digital camera and use only natural lighting.  This will explain why sometimes with items under glass you may vaguely see the outline of my head taking the photograph and why paintings with dark backgrounds may seem very light online.  When I process the digital image for online viewing, I use Adobe Photoshop.  I do 2 things, I rotate the image so that it is either horizontal or vertical, depending on the painting, and then I will crop exterior waste.  At that point, I will save for web viewing, usually at 180 dpi and compress so that it will download fast.  That is it.  I will NEVER alter, darken, sharpen or other to ANY image. EVER!  PERIOD.  Integrity is EVERYTHING in this business and maybe that will explain why I am still here, 12 YEARS later!

Lot 20
Artist:  Whorf, Nancy
Biography:  (1930-2009) Represented by the Berta Walker Gallery, daughter of John Whorf. At the age of 14, Nancy Whorf began her formal art study as a folk artist decorating furniture for Peter Hunt and for twenty years owned a shop in Wellfleet that sold her painted furniture. Yet, early on she wanted to explore her own painting more deeply and spent a year at the Boston Museum School of the Museum of Fine Arts, where she studied with Karl Zerbe. The influence of Charles Hawthorne can be felt from her studies with Vollian Ran and her father John Whorf, both former Hawthorne students. Since the late 80's, Whorf has focused exclusively on her painting. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the country and she has received numerous commissions from public and private organizations such as Lincoln Park Zoological Society, Tiffany's in Chicago, Abby Rockefeller. Works also at PAAM and the Town of Provincetown.
