Fall River, Ma., raised in New Bedford. Studied at Swain Sch. of
Design, Vesper George Sch. of Art, Boston. Winner of Yankee/Sagendorph
for watercolors (1986, cover of Yankee Magazine). Member of Cape
Cod Art Assoc. and Copley Society. Also taught at Cape Cod
Community College. Also won scholarships (1941, Mass. Women's
Club), Vesper George School. The Copley Society has a scholarship
in the name of Robert Brooks awarded to promising art students annually.
He had his studio on Route 28 in Hyannis for many years.

collection. Often known for his marine renderings. As time has passed

1960's. Was a predominant etcher. Each auction, the prices are going
up.

Henry Hensche: (1901 - 1992) Studied with Charles Hawthorne at
Cape School of Art, also at AIC, NAD, ASL, Beaux Arts. Started Cape
Cod School of Art (1930, named in 35) after Charles Hawthorne's passing
(was Cape School of Art). Member of Salmagundi Club, PAAM, Grand Central
Art Gallery, Boston Guild of Artists. Exhibits include: PAFA (1929-30,
1932), NAD (1930-Hallgarten prize), Corcoran Gallery biennials 1928-37
(5 exhibits), AIC, PAAM, Mint. Mus. Art, Jordan Marsh, Boston, Evanston
AA, Oklahoma AA. Works at Chrysler Collection, Harvard Club, NY,
Oklahoma Museum, Mint. Mus. Art, and others. Also painted numerous
landscapes, still-lifes and portraits in Louisiana. Extremely well
listed artist. His birth date, although proof showing he was born in
1899, he wished it known that he was born in 1901 and that is what is on
his grave stone in Truro.
"Untitled Portrait", oil on panel, 30.25 x 25, sur, circa 1930's,
painted in Flushing, NY, the model for this painting is still living and
originally came from his private collections. According to him, he
could not just sit there and do nothing so Henry gave him a football to
hold, excellent condition, original carved wood frame

John Henry Hill: (1839-1922) Studied with his father, John William
Hill. Member of ANA, 1859. Exhibited at NAD (1856-1891), Brooklyn AA
(1866-1885), PAFA in 1881, Boston AC in 1882, and 1891, AIC in 1899.
Works at NYPL, Adirondack Mus., Blue Lake, NY. Considered one of the
major American still life artist of the second half of the 19th century.
Also an accomplished landscape painter. Well listed in Who was Who in
American Art, 1975 edition.
