teaches and shows in Truro. Also taught at Empire College. 9. Kathleen Dunn: (born 1960) Studied at Castle Hill Art School, Truro, Ma., Mass. College of Art and UMass. Winner of grants from the Mass. Cultural Council. Member of PAAM. Exhibits include Boston, Berkshires and Cape Cod. Sept. 28, 2004 exhibition at FAWC (dune shack artist-in-residence show). Many private collections. 9.1 Dorothy Loeb: (1887 - 1934) Early Provincetown artist of distinction, recent shows has brought her work to the public eye at PAAM. Rumored to have been Blanche Lazzell's partner. 10. Anonymous: 12. William Scott: Came from estate of William
Scott (not related to the William Scott Gallery).
Was avid art collector and artist who left his and his late partner's

Has exhibited at many galleries in Boston including Matrix Gallery and Studio 34
in Provincetown. In many collections here, Boston and Florida. 15. Edna Martin: (1896-1996) Studied at RISD in 1918 (drawing, painting), under Eliza Gardiner. Also briefly taught at RISD and then Lincoln School in 1924. She exhibited in many places, was reviewed by the Providence Journal in 1931. Known for her woodcuts. 16. Dorothy Churchill Wyman: (1899-1993) Studied at the BMFA School and privately with George Elmer Browne in Provincetown and Europe. Exhibited at the Grace Horne Gal., Boston (solo), All. Artists Am. (1935), Boston SIA, Copley Society, PAAM, Baker Gal., Boston (1993, retrospective). 18. Joerg Dressler: (born 1964) Studied in Germany (Masters of Arts Degree), Ecole Nationale Superieur des Arts Decoratif, Paris. Works at Sametz Blackstone Assoc., Boston (Design Director). Exhibitions include: Gateway Terrace, Boston, PAAM (member's juried, 2004), Silas-Kenyan Gallery, Provincetown, Hochschule, Germany, Ecole Nationale, Paris, Karl-Rehbein Schule, Germany. This is one very talented artist and definitely one to buy before his prices go skyward. 19. Blossom Newman: (b.1933) Represented by the Cottontail Gallery, Wellfleet. Studied: Pratt Institute, NY, and Art School in Germany, MFA in Boston and also at Univ. of Hartford and in Provincetown under: Meta Warrick Fuller (student of Rodin), Peter Abate, Alf Branconier, Marcie Howe and also Dionos Owens, Frank Milby, Carol Westcott, Lois Griffel, Sal del Deo, Phyllis Szerejko and Vicky Tomayko. Exhibits include: NE Sculpture Assc., Springfield MFA, Berkshire Mus, Boston Winter Festival, Copley Society, Eye of Hours, Provincetown, PAAM, Orleans Town Hall, Cape Cod Conservatory, Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, Channel C3TV, Artisttheatre, Marion Theatre, Guyer Barn, Wellfleet Library and Snow Library in Orleans. Joe Rimini: North Shore artist and teacher. 21. W. B. Parrish: Extensive research yielded only one possibility and that is Williamina Parris (middle name unknown). Williamina is an early 20th century listed artist. 22. John Whorf, NA.: (1903 - 1959) Studied with his father, Harry C. Whorf, and at Botolphe Studio with Sherman Kid, 1917, also BMFA with Wm. Hale and Philip Hale and in Provincetown with Charles Hawthorne, Max Bohm, Richard Miller and George Elmer Browne, Gerrit Beneker and E. Webster, plus others here and in Paris. Also studied with John Singer Sargent in Boston, 1925 (Who's Who in American Art says 1925-26, but John Singer Sargent died in 1925). Member of: ANA, NA 1947, AWCS, The Beachcombers and PAAM. Exhibits include: Grace Horn Gallery, Boston, 1924 (first solo show), WCS 1934 and 39, AIC in 1934 (prize), WMAA, BMFA, Watercolor Society, Brooklyn Museum, WCC, NOMA, and too many others to list, most with prizes or medals. Provincetown. Also at Aries East, Brewster, Essex Fine Arts, Montclair,
N.J., Wenninger Gallery, Boston, Wohlfarth Gallery, DC, Colours in Birmingham,
Al and Swansboro Gallery, Wellfleet, MA. Countless member's Juried, shows,
collections in Provincetown and beyond. Trustee of PAAM and Bergen Museum
of Art & Science. Among his many mediums, the aqua-tint is his most
collected and is a lengthy process. 23. PAAM Chapbook: Original print book from
1935 consisting of 12 wood block prints by Provincetown printmakers.
Of the most famous and expensive when each page sold separately, is the
Blanche Lazzell "My Studio". It
has yielded more than 1100.00 in auction. I
add that it disheartens me to see that each page in this book, when broken
apart, sells for more. 25. H. Silva Fernandez: (20th century) Provincetown, New Bedford and New York maritime artist and teacher. Works have sold in previous PAAM auctions. Teachings include Rochester, NY. He was known to force his students to use a minimal palette (5 colors). Listed. 26. Irene Stry: (mid 20th century) Exhibited at the S. Indp. A., 1937-38. Listed in Who was Who in American Art, 1975. 27. Kenneth W. Thompson: (b.1907) Studied with E. Pape, H. Ballinger, W. Adams, Grand Central Sch. Art, George Pierce Ennis. Has received many awards and is also a well established art teacher and artist. Designed Provincetown Carnival Commemorative Series, a New Orleans Mardi Gras poster, 25 theatrical posters, illustrated over 30 books and book jackets for major publishers. 37. Chris Silva: (b.1960) Studied at Mass. College of Art (BFA, graphic design) and with Kathi Smith (white line wood block prints). Awarded scholarship at FAWC for week long drawing study with Bert Yarborough (2004). Member of PAAM and member's juried (2004). Was Arts Editor, Graphic Artist and Gallery Ad designer for Provincetown Magazine for 4 years. Studio is located at end of Bull Ring Wharf, Provincetown. Coincidence? Birth date exact same date as Blanche Lazzell and considers her a major influence on his works. He only produces one or two prints at a time. 37.1 Chris Silva: Information on previous lot. 38. Libby Trynz: (1904-2000) Painted in Provincetown for over 55 years, studied for many years at PAAM. Mentor was Remo Farruggio, recent PAAM auction yielded a new record price. 38.1 Miriam Fried: (b.1916)
Studied under Helen Van Wyck, Robert Natkin and Stephen Lo Monaco among others.
Extremely prolific artist of many mediums. Among the highlights of an
extensive art career in the abstracts, was a solo retrospective at Cape Museum
of Fine Arts in Dennis and PAAM in 2002. Was represented by the Al Davis
Gallery, Wellfleet. Collections include Boston Corporate, Boston
Stock Exchange. MGM Studios. Another highlight of this prolific artist is
the inclusion of her paintings in a recent film shot in Boston. 39. Edna Martin: Information previously listed
(Lot #15). 40. Bruce McKain: (1900- 1990) Studied: Herron AI 1918-22, with Charles Hawthorne, 1928-33. Member of PAAM, Beachcombers. Exhibited at: NA, 1938, PAAM, 1934,36,39, WFNY, 1939. Lived in Provincetown from 1928 on except for stint in Stonington, CT for war work (1943) and in Sarasota, FL (1955-56) for work on Ringling Bros. Circus where he painted sets. He has been compared to Aldro T. Hibbard. Very well collected and sought out artist. 41. Peter Shulman: (20th century) Extremely well known and collected artist. He first claimed fame with his "Fried Egg" pop art painting that hung at the Bianchi Gallery, NY along with Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. He has had more than 110 solo shows and 400 groups exhibits. More than 2000 paintings of his have been sold and are part of museum, private, public and corporate art collections.

Jack Coughlin: Very popular artist of Cape Cod and Western Mass., won 1rst Prize at National Academy of Design in Printmaking, shows at Calhoun Museum of American Art and other noted museums and collections. 44. Andrew Kooistra: (born 1926) Studied Mus. FA, Boston with Zerbe, Beckmann, Moore and de Kooning, Tuft's Univ. (BFA, 1951), Univ. Southern Ca. (MFA, 1952). Works at; PAAM, countless collections, well listed in Who's Who, AskArt. Known as illustrator, figure and graphics. 57. Arthur Vidal Diehl: (1870-1929) Largely self-taught. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1899. Progress Expo, Ct. 1927. He came to New York in 1891 penniless and painted snuff box tops and such. Listed in AskArt and Who's Who, but never sold in gallery or dealer. Fox Movietone made a short movie of Diehl painting and talking in Provincetown. 58. Dorothy Lake Gregory: (1893 - 1970) Extremely popular early illustrator and artist, over 20 books and magazines including "Alice in Wonderland", exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art, National Academy of Design, studied under Hawthorne, wife of Ross Moffett. 59. Signed Rudl: Unsure who this artist is. There is extensive information on a Cory Rudl but I do not think this is one and the same. 59.1 Signed Rudl: Information on previous lot. 60. Henry Hensche: (1901 - 1992) Studied with Charles Hawthorne at Cape School of Art, also at AIC, NAD, ASL, Beaux Arts. Started Cape Cod School of Art (1930, named in 35) after Charles Hawthorne's passing (was Cape School of Art). Member of Salmagundi Club, PAAM, Grand Central Art Gallery, Boston Guild of Artists. Exhibits include: PAFA (1929-30, 1932), NAD (1930-Hallgarten prize), Corcoran Gallery biennials 1928-37 (5 exhibits), AIC, PAAM, Mint. Mus. Art, Jordan Marsh, Boston, Evanston AA, Oklahoma AA. with the last name Eaton, unsure which one this is. 63. Elisabeth Pearl: (b.1945) Represented by the Lyman-Eyer Gallery, Provincetown. Was at the Al Davis Gallery, Wellfleet, PAAM Member's Juried, curator of dog show at PAAM for 2003, articles on her include Cape Cod Magazine, plus artwork featured in Provincetown Pocketbook.
